The return of the Backstreet Boys was a curious thing to fans. Four years after their last album This Is Us and eight years since their last release with member Kevin Richardson Never Gone, BSB is now back in full force with their new single "In A World Like This" and an upcoming album of the same name.
So, what really inspired Backstreet to come back?
In an interview with HuffingtonPost UK, member Nick Carter revealed they were influenced by British boy band Take That's return.
"The stars were kind of aligning anyway, but when we saw what they did, they way they were received on the road, and the fact that their new music was really good - it wasn't just some novelty thing - we began to see what could be possible," said Carter to HuffPo UK.
Robbie Williams notoriously left Take That, due to drug abuse and a desire to pursue a solo career. Richardson left BSB in 2006 to pursue other interests, which included a Broadway stint in the show Chicago.
Williams rejoined Take That for a reunion in 2010, which included a new album Progress and a stadium tour.
Similarly, after Richardson rejoined Backstreet Boys, the band went hard to work, performing in a string of shows with New Kids on the Block and working on their eighth studio album, In A World Like This. The "I Want It That Way" band seem happy to be together. Last week in a fan interview in the U.K., the group was all smiled and Richardson described his return to BSB: "I felt inspired. I had the desire to create music again with these guys," he said. "We just celebrated 20 years; that's a landmark. I just had the desire to do it. The fire and the desire."
In A World Like This will be released on July 30.
