So You Think You Can Dance Season 10: Judge Nigel Lythgoe Addresses Voting Controversy, Changes Policy

Fans of Fox's "So You Think You Can Dance" were outraged during Tuesday's show but head judge Nigel Lythgoe took steps to quell their anger on Thursday.

Lythgoe announced the six dancers at risk of elimination based on last week's public vote at the beginning of Tuesday's show. Two of them went through to safety and the other four then had to perform for survival. Lythgoe then cut Carlos Garland and Brittany Cherry from the show.

Unfortunately, the two then had to go in the back and then return later in the show to dance with their partners.

Fans went on Twitter and lampooned Lythgoe's move. Many called it a terrible way to start the broadcast. Furthermore, some said that Lythgoe's actions hurt the eliminated dancers' partners because they had nothing to perform for when they came back out to dance.

Lythgoe decided to address the controversy late Thursday night and posted the following on Twitter:

We're taking your advice by revealing America's vote in the beginning and judging at the end. I hope it will inspire the bottom 4? Thank you

So Lythgoe will announce the Bottom 6 at the start of the broadcast and send two of them to safety, just as he did last week. But from now on, the show will continue with dance routines until the end, when the Bottom 4 will perform for survival. At that point, the judges will confer and eliminate two dancers in a manner similar to Season 9.
