So many people around the country are bummed about the sudden cancellation of FOX's American Idol after one more season. But if you ask the show's former executive producer, Nigel Lythgoe, he believes it was time for the network to "rest it." TMZ caught up with Lythgoe in New York City just hours after FOX made the announcement that after one more season the show would be over and asked what he thought of the network's decision. The time has come for us to say goodbye to one of our favorite reality show judges. "So You Think You Can Dance" is about to lose one of its staple judges when the series returns this summer. Mary Murphy's contract has not been picked up and the star has decided to exit the series. The coach has been with the show for many years from 2007-09 and then again, after taking a two-year break, from 2011-14. According to TVLine, Murphy's contract was unfortunately not renewed for the new season, which will premiere this summer and most likely begin production in the coming weeks. Rumors involving Jennifer Lopez's return to "American Idol" for season 13 gained some steam today when the vocalist was reported to be seen meeting up with Ryan Seacrest, one of the last remaining stalwarts from the original lineup. On the "not rumor" side of things, FOX worked quickly to replace producers Nigel Lythgoe and Ken Warwick, who announced their exits only this morning.
