Beck Performs Song Reader Live in London: WATCH 'Don't Act Like Your Heart Isn't Hard' and More as British Musicians Accompany 'Loser' Rocker [VIDEO]

Beck, ever the experimental musician, threw his fans for a loop when he released a new album last year. Instead of taking the form of 12 songs performed by the "Loser" himself, Beck's most recent effort was made up entirely of sheet music. It was unknown whether of not Beck would ever perform the songs for himself, but last night (July 4), he finally played the Song Reader in full at a concert in the U.K.

Beck took the stage with a group of largely British musicians, according to Pitchfork. Jarvis Cocker, Franz Ferdinand, comedy duo The Mighty Boosh, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Beth Orton and more helped Beck to perform his sheet music.

Videos have surfaced from the London show, and Beck seems to be in a familiar place musically.

The upbeat "Don't Act Like Your Heart Isn't Hard" is a sing-songy, boppy number that feels incredibly happy despite its defensive lyrics. "So, don't act like your heart isn't hard, / And that the truth in your head isn't dark, / You can't turn Tin Pan Alley into a boulevard, / And go whistling past a graveyard," he sings.

Other songs from the Song Reader that were given the full Beck treatment were "Do We? We Do," "I'm Down" and "Just Noise." Watch the videos here:

"Rough on Rats" is a creeping, winding number with an old-school feel. The entire band joined Beck on stage to sing the song at the end of the Song Reader concert. Watch the ensemble performance below:

Beck released a new single, "I Won't Be Long," earlier this week. He also has two full-length (listenable) albums due out this year.
