Elton John has cancelled the rest of his summer tour dates following his diagnosis with appendicitis. The performer was on a European tour when he fell ill and called in doctors to investigate.
The dates cancelled include the Collisioni festival in Italy on Tuesday night, a show in Germany on Thursday and a show at London's Hyde Park on Friday as part of the Barclaycard Summer Time festival. July festival dates in Spain, France and Monaco have also been cancelled.
"Sir Elton is currently undergoing a course of intensive antibiotics and is expected to undergo surgery in the UK in the coming weeks, once doctors can be confident they have sufficiently reduced toxins within the inflamed appendicitis site," reads a statement's on the performer's website.
John was scheduled to begin another stretch of European shows in September, followed by a string of shows at the Caesar's Coluseum in Las Vegas, however all dates listed on his website are listed as "off sale." Still, those shows are only delayed for the time being and there is still a possibility that John will play them says a spokesperson. Still, he is determined to be absolutely ready to play the dates.
"Elton is incredibly disappointed to postpone these tour dates," the spokesperson said. "To know that he made such super-human efforts and continued to perform to thousands through his illness only confirms his dedication to his European fans. He is eager to be back on top form and return to play the remaining shows starting in early September 2013."
The show on Friday at Hyde Park has been changed so that it is now free of admission. Those who already had tickets can exchange them for a refund. The show will feature Ray Davies of The Kinks, Elvis Costello and Nick Lowe as originally planned.
