British alternative rockers Arctic Monkeys have released the album artwork for their new album 2013 AM today (July 15) via their Twitter and Facebook with the straight to the point message of "Here's the artwork for 'AM' - released 9th September 2013."
Featuring a black background and white sound waves, the cover for the "Fluorescent Adolescent" is incredibly simplistic. The minimalist design follows the rock motif of a simple black album cover, such as AC/DC's Back in Black and The Black Keys' Grammy award winning artwork for Brothers.
The artwork for AM can be seen above.
The sound wave lines on the cover reflect the music video for AM's lead single "Do I Wanna Know." Premiering last month, the clip features a black background and shows a sound wave morphing colors and shapes, eventually taking the form of naked women, cars driving off into the distance and more.
As indicated by "Do I Wanna Know" and the previously released song "R U Mine?" the new Monkeys record is set to take on a darker musical tone. The group worked with Queen of The Stone Age's Josh Homme on AM.
In a recent interview with BBC Radio 1 via NME, Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner explained that the album title was simply an abbreviation of the band's name, which he "stole" from the Velvet Underground's album VU.
AM will be released on Sept. 9 and is available for pre-order now. It is the follow up to 2011's Suck It And See and will be the fifth studio album for the band.
