Although Star Wars: Episode VII won't be featured at 2013's Comic Con in San Diego, the event has already produced some more casting rumors around the anticipated film. "Doctor Who" star Matt Smith, who is set to depart his role as the time-traveling character at the end of this year, has thrown his hat into the casting race for J.J. Abrams' 2015 movie.
Though most of the questions for Smith at Comic Con are and will be centered on "Doctor Who," the 50th anniversary special and why he decided to retire his bow-tie and fez, the 30-year-old actor did get to talk a bit about his future and some roles he would be interested in.
"I go back to auditioning and trying to get a job," Smith said about leaving his job at BBC's series. "Someone employ me!"
After answering some fan questions and avoiding more "Doctor Who" speculation, the conversation turns to Star Trek and Star Wars. When asked if he would like to play a Star Trek character, Smith quickly responded, "Yeah, I would!
"I would, J.J.," Smith continued before whispering into the microphone, "or Star Wars. So just putting it out there."
Matt also admitted that he loves J.J. Abrams' work, so he is probably crossing his fingers (as most actors are) for a role in Star Wars.
Do you think Matt would be a good addition to Episode VII?

Another actor who keeps talking about getting a role in Star Wars is legendary Trek star William Shatner. Also at Comic Con in San Diego, Shatner was asked about the upcoming film and said he would like a starring role in the new movie.
"The lead!" Shatner answered enthusiastically when asked what role he would give himself if he could cast himself as anybody.
He added, "Harrison Ford, progressed!"
