Comic Con 2013 Suicide Attempt Thwarted by Stuntmen [VIDEO]: 'Intoxicated & Distraught' Woman Dangles from Balcony, Pulled to Safety

Though we can say that this year's Comic Con was a huge success in terms of breaking news and updates regarding some of 2013 and 2014's most anticipated films and shows, the event almost got off to a sad start. Right before the event kicked off on Thursday, a woman was spotted dangling from a 14^th floor balcony. Luckily, thanks to some heroic stuntmen, an apparent attempted suicide was averted, saving Comic Con and more importantly saving a life.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, three stuntmen who were setting up a live event for a convention party heard screaming and noticed the young woman dangling from the high-rise balcony. The men ran over to the building and gained access to the woman's apartment, which was not locked.

We went through the apartment trying to be as quiet as possible," stuntman Amos Carver told ABC News. "We didn't want to alert her that we were there."

When the men found the woman, "she was hanging on [the balcony] with one hand, and had one foot off the ledge," Carver explained.

One of the stuntmen, Gregg Sergeant, snuck up behind and grabbed the woman in a bear hug while Carver and a third stuntman, Scot Schecter, rushed to the balcony.

Video footage shows Carver throwing a harness around the woman. Then the three men brought her back into her apartment away from the ledge. Police arrived soon afterwards.

"She just kept saying, 'I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry,' over and over again," Carver said. "She was very distraught." He also said that the woman was "very intoxicated."

"We're trained to deal with these situations should they arise," Carver explained. "But usually if we do, it's not an innocent civilian. If we're saving somebody, it's a situation we constructed in such a way that they're out on the edge of life or death intentionally to get a certain shot [in a film], and we swoop in. But those are people who are expecting this."

Sergeant said, "I was just so thankful we got there when we got there. I think if we'd been there two seconds later, she would've been gone."

According to some reports, the woman was reacting to a recent end to a relationship.
