Rapper M.I.A.'s struggles to get her new album, "Matangi" released have been no real secret. After struggling with her record label to have her follow up to 2011's "MAYA" released, Interscope has finally announced a release date.
"Matangi" will finally see the light of day on Nov. 5, according to Pitchfork.
The sudden release date after months of delays comes after M.I.A. threatened to leak the record herself. Last night (Aug. 8) on her Twitter, the "Paper Planes" rapper wrote, "Who would stop MATANGI from coming out? If interscope takes any longer I can always leak this next week and make a new one by the time they are ready."
"Matangi" has seen the release of a few songs leading up to its release. Most notably, single "Bring the Noize" was released in June. Like M.I.A. has claimed, the track seems to blend together a lot of her influences, featuring scattered beats and upbeat, fast-paced rapping to create a chaotic and fun musical atmosphere.
Like her last album "MAYA," "Matangi"'s title reflects M.I.A.'s own sense of self and name. She told Pitchfork that she stumbled across the true meaning of her name, which is the goddess of knowledge and the arts.
More details about "Matangi" have yet to be divulged, but tracks such as "Only 1 U," "Come Walk With Me," "Doobie" and "AtTENTtion" are expected to appear on the album.
