Although Lady Gaga's first "Artpop" single "Applause" was rush released six days early, that doesn't mean the entire project will get leaked or even be released on time. Today (Aug. 14), the lyric video for the song was due out at 12 p.m. PST/ 3 p.m EST. However, noon on the West Coast came and went, and there was no new footage from Haus of Gaga.
Minutes and hours ticked by as fans anxiously awaited the lyric video. Though Gaga originally wrote on her Twitter that the "Applause" lyric video would be up on VEVO "momentarily" -- and eventually joked that she was "Latey Gaga" -- it wasn't until three hours later that the clip finally hit the web.
Make sure you switch your VEVO resolution TO 1080HD in the bottom corner of video, its beautiful in high definition! Thank you @MickysWeHo!

The resulting lyric video played off the stage, live performance aspect of the "Applause" lyrics. The video features footage from a drag fashion show. Queens strut their stuff on the runway while the Mother Monster herself sits in the audience, her face painted in a style similar to the single's cover artwork. Money, condoms, smartphones and a rainbow Beanie Baby trade hands among audience members.
Overall, the video footage in the lyric video highlights a light-hearted party atmosphere, which helps to highlight the single's poppy, EDM-inspired beat.
The words themselves are similarly reflected. "Applause" is about dismissing critics and feeding off fan love, which certainly comes through from the performers. The lyrics are shown in white, italicized font with a black outline. Key words and phrases are shown in a pink/purple color.
