Eminem has debuted "Survival," a track from his new album, in a commercial for Call Of Duty: Ghosts. Check it out below:
The "survival of the fittest" motif put forth by the song (and Skylar Grey's hook) meshes well with the COD gameplay imagery to make for a compelling commercial, but overall, the song is underwhelming. Em starts to edge toward the ferocity of his earlier work in the second verse, but ultimately the boasts come off as hollow.
I think Em has fallen into the same trap as Jay Z, where massive amounts of success have left him without the hunger that made his early albums so compelling. The track will no doubt have a lot of stans shouting "Guess Who's Back?" but I just don't see it. Here's the track without explosions:
While Eminem has yet to release an album drop date or title, it's expected that Shady's latest will be in stores before the end of this year.
We fully expect to be releasing a new Eminem album in 2013," Shady Records President Paul Rosenberg said in an interview with Billboard. "He's been working on it for some time. It's safe to say that it will be post-Memorial Day at some point, but we're not exactly sure when. We've got some dates locked in for him to perform live in Europe in August, so we're trying to see what else lines up."
What do you think of "Survival," presumably the first track from Eminem's new album?
