The original release date of Lady Gaga's first "Artpop" single "Applause" was supposed to come complete with a music video, iTunes release and radio unveiling. Due to leaks that happened during the same weekend as Katy Perry's new single "Roar," Mother Monster's plans were all thrown out the window. "Applause" first streamed on VEVO and YouTube, was made available on iTunes a day or two later then a lyric video for the track popped up on Friday (Aug. 14). However, today (Aug. 19), the intended "Applause" due date was marked by the official music video, which premiered on "Good Morning America."

Like the name of her third studio album suggests, the music video for "Applause" blends together the pop sensibilities of the single with the bizarre world of art. As Gaga teased on Twitter on Aug. 16, the clip blends together black and white imagery with color frames and "handpainted film."

The result is a bizarre music video with the sort of scenes that only Lady Gaga could pull off. Featuring Gaga in an all-black body suit strutting down a runway, sitting in a giant pot while biting a knife and dancing in a cage with zombie-like makeup in the first 15 seconds, it was clear from the beginning this new era of Gaga's will be interesting to watch.

The rest of the "Applause" video follows suit, with bizarre imagery of Gaga ranging from a sparkly horse tail to her head on a goose's body. Of course, there are more traditional music video elements represented, most notably, the dace breakdown in the middle of the video.

"Applause" is the lead single off Lady Gaga's upcoming new album "Artpop," which will hit shelves on Nov. 11 and is available for pre-order now. The song will get its live debut this weekend at the 2013 MTV VMAs.
