"Inside sources" have revealed that Star Wars: Episode VII is still on track for a 2015 release. That's great news considering other rumors about losing J.J. Abrams as director and setbacks in production are pretty much proven wrong by this update. Unfortunately, these sources are also saying that the release date might end up in December, meaning the wait for the anticipated film is even longer.
BadassDigest dropped this story. Here is an excerpt:
Multiple sources have told me that right now Disney and Lucasfilm have December circled on their calendars, with a mid-month release - the 15th - being most likely. That would take Star Wars out of the crowded summer and, more importantly, give JJ Abrams and company a couple more months to work on a movie that's already running a tighter schedule than most of the other Star Wars films.
Every single other Star Wars movie has been released in May, so moving to December is, symbolically, a big deal. It takes the movie out of what promises to be a bloody, ugly summer.
That last bit is referring to the other films coming out that summer, making it a crowded box office. This move might be a great idea for the franchise.
In other news, there has yet to be any casting news but new rumors about Ewan McGregor returning for spinoffs and/or Episode VII have been circulating. What do you think of McGregor reprising Obi-Wan Kenobi?
Mstars recently reported on this casting rumor. Here is an excerpt:
McGregor hasn't been coy about his wanting to return to the franchise. Earlier this year he admitted he would want to return and even had some ideas for an Obi-Wan spinoff film. Check out footage of McGregor talking about his future with Star Wars right here:
