Finally, someone has come out and explained exactly why Taylor Swift said "shut the f*** up," to Selena Gomez while One Direction was presenting the award for "Best Female Pop Video" at the 2013 Video Music Awards. We all assumed that she was just aggravated at seeing her ex-boyfriend Harry Styles, but now mutual mate Ed Sheeran says that that was not the case at all!

According to Sheeran, Selena was doubting herself in the category and said she felt that Miley Cyrus would win for her "We Can't Stop" video over Gomez's "Come and Get It." Reacting to her friend's self-deprecating remark, Swift said "shut the f*** up" as a way to encourage the 21-year-old pop star.

Gomez went on to win that award!

When Selena was asked about the comment last week during the premiere of her new movie, Getaway, she told the reporter: "Don't try that with me!"

She later went on to explain that she is protective of her friends, especially her BFF Taylor.

"I think girls need to be more supportive of each other. I definitely agree with that. I'm all about that," she said. "Taylor has been one of those girls. We have been friends for five years. She is very strong. She doesn't care what people think and she inspires me."

She might not have been surprised to get some questions about the VMAs during her premiere; Selena admitted that she was pretty surprised to win a moonman.

"So I am watching the beautiful boys, One Direction who are not bad to look at, then they said my name," she recalled. "I looked at Taylor ... it was surreal. Because I do put so much work into my music. There's so much talk of everything. But I did put my heart and soul into it so I was really excited. It was great."
