TVGuide just released the new poster for the fifth season of the CW's "The Vampire Diaries" and it is definitely an edgy image, even for the sexy series. We get a good look at the upcoming cast members, but we're treated to a little bit more of star Nina Dobrev. The young starlet stands out in a see-through, backless dress!

Though this new image is great, it doesn't reveal too much in regards to the show's plot and story. Luckily star Ian Somerhalder spoke a bit about the upcoming season to TVGuide!
"This Season we're really going back to what we had in Season 1, which is what sucked everyone in to begin with," Somerhalder recently explained while filming in Atlanta. "Our director of photography is using light and darkness to paint the imagery of the story, really accentuating it and creating a mood that helps tell our story. This is a dark show."
Executive producer Julie Plec recently revealed some great teasers for the upcoming season, too!
"The Vampire Diaries is so great right now," she said. "It is bananas! You've got Silas running around pretending to be Stefan, you've got Damon and Elena living happily ever after completely unaware that Bonnie is dead and that Stefan is in mortal peril."
She added: "Within all that, we introduce some new characters. You've got the mysterious new professor and you've got the nice guy that thinks Caroline is super pretty and just wants to hang out."
