Yesterday (Oct. 7) after weeks of anticipation, Lady Gaga unveiled the album cover for her new album "Artpop" via billboards across the United States and a live stream on her official website.
The colorful album cover was done by artist Jeff Koons and features a nude Gaga giving birth to one of his signature blue gazing balls. The cover features flashy, wonky fonts and a blonde Gaga, two curious choices that Little Monsters wanted cleared up. Soon after the cover was revealed, Gaga explained the choices about her album cover on Twitter.
"Why is the last A in 'Gaga' really weird @ladygaga," asked @azaeliawanks. "My brain is a strange place," Gaga explained.
Indeed, the typography on the "Artpop" cover is wonky. Letters are split down the middle in several places with pieces of the background art cutting words and letters in two.
Secondly and most interestingly, Gaga's hair on the "Artpop" cover is long, blonde and straight with blunt bangs, more reminiscent of her "The Fame" days than her "Artpop" era. The interesting hair choice was explained by Gaga as a product of the statue being immortal.
"@WillyWollyOlly I wanted to be immortalized by Jeff in my original coif! What an honor!" wrote Gaga.
The "Artpop" album cover's centerpiece, a statue by Koons, will be exhibited at Gaga's "artRAVE Artpop" exclusive release party on Nov. 10 at the Berghain Club in Berlin.
"Artpop," the third studio album from Lady Gaga will be released on Nov. 11.
