This year's Doctor Who 50th anniversary special has David Tennant reprising his role of the tenth Doctor opposite Matt Smith as the current, eleventh Doctor. We even have John Hurt portraying a mysterious version of the Doctor. But what about number nine, Christopher Eccleston? A new interview with showrunner Steven Moffat revealed why the Thor 2: The Dark World star didn't end up in The Day of the Doctor.
"I had an initial contact with Chris and, in a very amiable and gentlemanly way, he didn't feel that he could come back to it," Moffat said. "There wasn't any big fuss about it -- I had a couple of meetings with him, and he was perfectly pleasant, and indeed quite enthused about the show, but he just doesn't do that, it's just not him."
Pretty cut and dry, wouldn't you say?
With the November 23, 2013, air date of Doctor Who's 50th anniversary special fast approaching, we have yet to see a trailer but may have gotten some great spoilers from this year's CNYC Comic Con!
Well not exactly. There weren't any real spoilers coming from Comic Con this week, but we do have some great quotes from a former Doctor!
Peter Davison revealed that he would be returning to the Doctor Who universe.
"I've heard lots of rumors, none of which I'm allowed to tell you anything about. I'm privy to them actually," said Davison "I have got a copy of the script which has got my name embossed across it. So it's top secret, but there's other stuff, lots of other things that are going on that people should keep their eye open for around the 50th anniversary special!"
In another recent interview, Davison revealed a bit more of his involvement in the special this year: "I'm making an appearance somewhere over that period of time but I can't reveal in what...I can't reveal anything specific about it. I'm not allowed to...It is a big year for the show and we're all doing our bit for it. Trust me."
