The end of Glee is near, relatively at least. Creator Ryan Murphy announced that the sixth season of the hit musical dramady, set to air in 2014-2015, will be its last.
According to TV Line at a Paley Center FX event, Murphy revealed that after the sixth season -- for which Glee has been renewed -- the show will come to its natural end. However, the initial ending for the show has had to be completely reworked since the tragic death of actor Cory Monteith, who played the show's leading man and quarterback, Finn Hudson.

"The final year of the show, which will be next year, was designed around Rachel and Cory/Finn's story. I always knew that, I always knew how it would end. I know what the last shot was -- he was in it. I knew what the last line was -- she said it to him," Murphy said. "So when a tragedy like that happens, you sort of have to pause and figure out what to do, so we're figuring that out now."
Seemingly, the ending that Lea Michele's character Rachel Berry said to Mr. Schue was the original conclusion to the show. In a highly emotional moment, Rachel told her old glee club teacher that she thought she would make it on a Broadway show or even in a Woody Allen movie, walk back to the choir room, see Finn teaching and tell him that "I'm home."
Since that ending had to be scrapped -- Finn Hudson was killed off in last week's episode, "The Quarterback" (Oct. 10) - Murphy has had to redo the series. "I have a good idea," he said. "I'm going to tell the studio and the network [in a week] how after Cory's unfortunate passing we can end the show that I think is very satisfactory. And kind of in his honor, which I love."
Currently, Glee is on a hiatus. The fifth season will return to air on Nov. 7 with an episode titled "A Katy or a Gaga."
