Demi Lovato opened up last night at the Redlight Traffic Dignity Gala in Beverly Hills and performed the highly emotional, personal Demi ballad "Warrior" for the first time.
In an intimate setting, the "Heart Attack" singer wore all black and her new hot blue hair was tied back in a sleek ponytail, allowing her music to be the main focus.
Lovato positively nailed the vocals, despite not having rehearsed the song. Backed by a simple piano, the lyrics truly stood out in the powerful Demi ballad.
The Redlight Traffic Diginity Gala supports the end of child trafficking. Though Lovato has not spoken specifically about what "Warrior" is about, only hinting to Cosmopolitan that her "family knows what it's about," the lyrics to the song do reflect the pain of abused children.
"This is a story I have never told / I gotta get this off my chest to let it go / I need to take back the light inside you stole / You're a criminal," the X Factor judge sings in the opening bars. Later, Lovato opens up even more musically: "There's a part of me I can't get back / A little girl grew up too fast / All it took was once, I'll never be the same."
Inevitably, "Warrior" is about taking back your life, and the personal, relevant lyrics prompted a standing ovation from the audience.

It's unknown whether or not Lovato will have "Warrior" on the setlist for her upcoming Neon Lights Tour, which is set to begin on Feb. 9, 2014, in Vancouver, Canada.
