Katharine McPhee, Michael Morris Kissing [PHOTO]: 'Smash' star and director caught in affair after show cancellation - wife Mary McCormack 'blindsided'

Smash may have been canceled earlier this year, but that doesn't mean the drama surrounding the musical show is over. The show's star, Katharine McPhee, was this week photographed locking lips with director Michael Morris, who worked on the show as well. Unfortunately, this isn't a "new couple alert" news update because Morris is married to actress Mary McCormack, who had no idea this affair was going on until the photograph surfaced. Oh and McPhee is married to 47-year-old producer Nick Cokas. Yikes!

This PDA session included plenty of kissing and handholding in a parking lot after an apparent lunch date. McPhee was not wearing her wedding ring.

McPhee and Cokas have "been separated for six months," according to a friend. "Nick continues to co-manage her music," the source added.

So that explains McPhee's position in this whole debacle, but what about Morris? The status of his marriage with McCormack is unknown, but it might be safe to assume that "on the rocks" would be a good way to describe it. McCormack and Morris have three young daughters together.

According to an insider who spoke with People about this apparent affair, McCormack was under the impression that she was still in a happy marriage before the photos popped up.

"Mary adores her husband. If this is true, she would have been blindsided," the insider was quoted to have said. "She is the most devoted mother and wife."
