The Star Wars prequels are widely contested as being the worst thing to happen to the franchise and the character of Jar Jar Binks was one of the leading reasons why. So when some new footage of (arguably) one of the most racist characters in film history being killed off in a deleted scene was revealed this week, fans of the films may wonder why it was cut from the film. Clearly we'd all like to see this character die off (especially in the first prequel movie, The Phantom Menace) but after seeing viewing this scene you'll probably be glad it was cut.

In this recently revealed deleted scene, Jar Jar, Obi Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) and Qui-Gon Jinn (Liam Neeson) surface from a visit to Binks' underwater Gungan home, only to discover that they are being pulled to certain death by a waterfall right next to them. That's right, guys: they surface next to a waterfall somehow!

So Jinn, being the wise mentor figure of the film, quickly dispatches a safety line to get out of this weird situation but then Jar Jar is suddenly afraid of water - even though he lives underwater up until this moment.

The line break and Jar Jar and the ship go down the waterfall, crashing into rocks. Jar Jar is dead and this scene goes down as one of the most confusing in cinema. Thankfully it was deleted, though that meant the continued use of Binks. You win some you lose some, I suppose. Though we all lost with Jar Jar, didn't we?
