As we recently reported, Focus Features and Rocket Films have decided on Dark Knight Rises actor Tom Hardy to take on the lead role in the Elton John biopic, Rocketman.

The Hollywood Reporter claims Hardy has taken the role quite seriously by actually wearing John's clothes, having an exceptional affinity for his track suits. He has even gone as far to request wearing John's watch.

A press release for the biopic originally stated:

Much like the man himself, Rocketman is a larger-than-life movie musical spectacle that tells the story of a child prodigy turned music legend. Elton will re-record many of his iconic hits to parallel the emotional beats of the film that will have audiences on their feet, singing along to his much loved music. The film is scheduled to shoot in fall 2014.

"We are confident that Tom will embody the physicality and spirit of Sir Elton." Focus Features CEO Peter Schlessel said of the film's star. "This, in conjunction with the creative team led by Michael and Rocket Pictures, will provide the foundation for something that will be a unique cinematic event."

A movie about the iconic pop star only deserves an actor who will allow himself to be fully engulfed in the character. His collection of eyewear has likely sky-rocketed.

"The two met up after Cannes in May and really hit it off," says Joe Drake, the man behind the company Good Universe that is selling Rocketman internationally. The film is set to begin shooting in 2014.
