When fans follow the verified Twitter accounts of international celebrities, one of the last things they'd expect to see tweeted about is a weight loss supplement. So when Louis Tomlinson of One Direction decided to share his love of a recent smoothie he had from the company Bootea, fans were outraged that the "Diana" singer helped promote the weight loss company.
First of all, just seeing the name of the company wouldn't really inform followers of what it actually does but after you click through to the organization's Twitter account, you find out what it is. Bootea has been described as an "intense" weight loss supplement manufacturer, which is definitely not a great product for the young fans of One Direction to get involved in.
Louis has since deleted the Twitter post after he found out about the controversy, but it originally read: "Had an amazing @BooteaUK smoothie from Bootea.com this morning #booteashake."
When he was informed about the company, he insisted he "did not realize they are associated with weight-loss and would never endorse weight-loss products," according to his reps.
This might be behind him, but check out some of the Twitter reactions he received after his original tweet:
@Louis_Tomlinson @BooteaUK can you guys take this down?? R u nuts? You r promoting dieting drinks to teens! whats in ur head?
