One of TV's longest and most entertaining feuds has been between "Tonight Show" host Jay Leno and "Late Show" host David Letterman. The feud goes back to 1992, when Leno took over for legendary "Tonight Show" host Johnny Carson. Ever since losing out to Leno for the "Tonight Show" gig, Letterman has taken shots on-air and in the media at Leno. It's been a well-documented feud. Well apparently their feud is over and it not only has shocked fans, but the "King Of All Media" Howard Stern, who still has his own feud going on with Leno.
During a recent "Tonight Show" Leno revealed that he and Letterman had actually made up and talked on the phone recently. This was shocking because after over twenty years of feuding, I don't think anyone expected Letterman to get over the "Tonight Show" controversy. However, to his credit, Letterman admitted on the "Late Show" to Stern that it was true; he had talked with Leno on the phone.
Stern, who has refused to go on the "Tonight Show" with Leno even though they both work on the same network, was shocked by Letterman's confession. He went as far as to suggest he felt betrayed by Letterman's phone call with Leno.
"I feel like a Vietnam veteran," Stern told Letterman. "I feel like I'm still in the jungles fighting your war and you've made up with Vietnam." Stern has had his own well publicized feud with Leno after Leno hired former Stern employee "Stuttering John" Melendez to be the "Tonight Show" announcer.
"Mind you, I work for NBC television now and I'm not speaking to Jay Leno," Stern continued. "They asked me to go on his show, I go, 'No - he did Dave wrong.'"
It's also interesting to note that during Stern's time talking about Leno, Letterman looked very uncomfortable. Letterman usually seems to enjoy Stern's appearances, but he looked rather unamused by Stern's antics.
Although Letterman may be done feuding with Leno, it sounds like Stern isn't ready to end his feud with Leno any time soon. You can watch a clip from Letterman's interview with Stern below. As usual, Stern provided a very entertaining segment.
