The Amazing Spider-Man 2 trailer will be available online on December 5

Fans have been eagerly anticipating The Amazing Spider-Man 2 for months. First, director Marc Webb tweeted out pictures from the set during every single day of filming earlier in the year. Then came news from San Diego Comic-Con 2013, followed by the awaiting of an official trailer. Now, Sony has officially revealed when fans can view the full trailer for the Spidey sequel.

Sony said on the official Facebook page for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 that the trailer will be available online on Dec. 5 after a sneak peek earlier that morning on Good Morning America. This means that fans must wait just 11 days to get a first true glimpse at the sequel.

As for the theaters, moviegoers will get the chance to see The Amazing Spider-Man 2 trailer on Dec. 13 in front of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Webb used the following gloriously nerdy tweet on Oct. 29 to reveal the theatrical premiere date for the trailer:

The markings in the message are actually Dwarvish runes from J.R.R. Tolkien's Hobbit series and translate to "Watch for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 trailer in front of The Hobbit in 3D." If there's a more geek-tastic way to make an announcement about a movie, then I don't know what it is.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 stars Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Jamie Foxx as Max Dillon/Electro, Paul Giamatti as Rhino, Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn and Sally Field as Aunt May. The film hits theaters on May 2, 2014.
