For only a few months now, we've known that Emile Hirsh will star in a John Belushi biopic as the late comedian and Saturday Night Live legend. This news broke in November, but there have been few updates on the project since. But thanks to an announcement made at a Sundance party by an excited Hirsch, we might have learned the actor signed on to play Belushi's friend Dan Akroyd. At a party for the Creative Coalition over the weekend during the Sundance Film Festival, actor Emile Hirsch was being interviewed and decided to make a huge announcement for his upcoming movie.
He said: "A shout-out to Miles Teller! We're going to be working together soon. He's playing Dan Aykroyd in the Belushi movie."
The people behind the film, which includes Dan Akroyd himself serving as an executive producer, have not confirmed this casting. We should continue to treat this as a rumor for now, though having the film's leading man announce the news is pretty close to a confirmation!
Teller has been garnering incredible acclaim over the last year and into 2014 for his past and upcoming roles in The Spectacular Now, That Awkward Moment, and Whiplash. The actor has a bright future ahead of him including a rumored role in the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot.
