Saturday Night Live has been making some great moves over the last few weeks. First the show hired Sasheer Zamata as the newest cast member and then acquired new writers LaKendra Tookes and Leslie Jones. Now, with the departure of Seth Meyers for his new job hosting Late Night, SNL has moved head writer Colin Jost in front of the camera as the new "Weekend Update" anchor alongside Cecily Strong!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new co-anchor has known he'd be replacing Meyers since September of 2013. Both Jost and Meyers worked out how he would transistion into the position, which will take place on March 1.
THR reports:
Jost has been head writer at SNL since 2012, first joining the show's writing staff in 2005. He has won three WGA Awards, a Peabody Award and has been nominated for eight Emmys for his work on the series. Jost is a 2004 graduate from Harvard University and was president of the Harvard Lampoon. He wrote and starred in the upcoming Paramount feature Staten Island Summer, based on his days as a lifeguard.
Prior to this news, many believed that Strong would be the singular anchor for "Weekend Update." Though having two anchors has worked for the last few generations of the hit sketch comedy show, it would've been pretty interesting to see this happen.
Jost has been a head writer at Saturday Night Live since 2012 and is following in the footsteps of Meyers who has a similar career path on the show.
