After being convicted of the murder of her former roommate Meredith Kercher in 2007 (along with her then boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito) and then released after the verdict was overturned in 2011, Amanda Knox has once again been found guilty of this crime. Despite sufficient evidence and the fact that the original verdict was overturned, Knox is once again guilty in eyes of the Italian justice system. This week she appeared on Good Morning America to talk about extradition and the verdict itself.
Explaining that she was watching a live stream of the trial online, Knox admitted to going through waves of emotion.
"I couldn't believe what I was hearing ... My first reaction was 'no' and 'this is wrong,' and I'm going to do everything I can to prove that it is and I felt very determined and my family felt very determined. But it was only on my way here that I got my first cry," she explained.
"This really has hit me like a train," she said. "I did not expect this to happen. I really expected so better from the Italian justice system. They found me innocent before. How can they say it's guilt beyond a reasonable doubt ... I'm going to fight this until the very end," Knox added, remaining defiant. "And it's not right and it's not fair. And I'm going to do everything I can."
In regards to extradition, it is widely believed that the United States won't recognize this ruling and will disallow the imprisonment of Knox, though we'll have to wait and see for the official decision.
"I really hope that people try to understand that when you have overzealous prosecutors and when you have a biased interrogator and a biased investigation and coercive interrogations, these things happen, and I'm not crazy," she said.
