We're all pretty familiar with the criticism most people have towards Lena Dunham and her HBO series Girls. Whether you like it or not, there's no denying that receiving an Emmy is proof enough that Dunham is talented in the eyes of those that matter. So when Delaware County Daily Times published a rant from columnist Christine Flowers on her opinions on Dunham, we weren't exactly prepared for a threat to be involved.
Of course, Flowers has every right to rant about whatever she would like to, in fact it's part of her job. She's clearly not a fan of Girls, but threatening to strangle the star is a bit extreme in most people's minds.
"The person I would be most tempted to hurt is Lena Dunham, the creator, writer and putative star of [Girls]," Flowers writes. "It is fashionable to say that Dunham is talented, just as it was once fashionable to purchase and pamper pet rocks. To me, Dunham is just a large fluffy skein of wool pulled over the eyes of anyone who thinks that acting involves more than opening your eyes really wide and saying things like 'I have to live my truth.'"
Flowers goes on to compare Dunham to Grace Kelly due to a recent exhibit she attended on the late Princess of Monaco. As a professional dressmaker, she also explains how Dunham wouldn't wear "virginal white" for ... reasons. Flowers then talks about the tattoos that Dunham has. Clearly, the columnist hates Lena.
She closes her article, sating: "I'd settle for strangling Lena Dunham."

There are plenty of arguments against Girls that are worth considering, but the general "Lena Dunham's body is gross" stance is old, arbitrary and just not a good reason to criticize the actress or the show. What should have been an article on Girls quickly dissolves into a judgmental rant on the appearance and character of Dunham - a widely successful young woman that serves somewhat as a role model for a generation of creative girls.
Basically we just want to say that there is no reason to threaten bodily harm in an article that should've spent more time backing up its criticism and less time on badmouthing an Emmy winner.
How do you think Flowers will handle Dunham on Saturday Night Live?
