Joe Carroll's new cult is becoming a greater threat than anyone could have imagined and Ryan Hardy is desperately trying to stop the murders from continuing. But are there too many distractions keeping Ryan away from his goal? Plus we know that Claire is alive and that she wants to reach out to Ryan. How will this go down? Fox's The Following is building a lot of tension in season two, so what should we expect from tonight's episode, "Betrayal?" (SPOILERS to follow)
We found out what happened to the cult members unwilling to kill for Joe, but what about the one's that were on board? The eerie introductory scene to last week's episode "Freedom" was definitely one for the record books. Joe explaining murder as a gift of freedom to the world was pretty intense, especially when this lesson was given to the willing members.
Also, Joe's influence is spreading in a strange way: consumerism. He's become a pop culture icon. People are putting his face on shirts and other merchandise, adding another crazy layer to the story.
Another attack takes place, but it turns out it's just an elaborate copycat rouse orchestrated by Lily Gray to help Luke escape. Ryan and the FBI eventually catch on to the plan, but after a number of deaths Luke still escapes.
Meanwhile Mandy runs away from Korban and reaches out to Lily, who has made Joe and Emma pretty mad by taking the spotlight once again. And Claire finally gets to Ryan, much to his surprise.
