The charts are just as frozen as the mountains of Arendale. For the ninth, non-consecutive week, the soundtrack to Disney's Frozen has topped the Billboard 200, leaving it just one week shy of the record set by the legendary juggernaut that is The Lion King.
Frozen comes in at No. 1 on the US Albums Charts yet again this week, in a tale as old as time. According to Billboard, the seemingly unstoppable princess movie soundtrack sold 149,000 copies this week. However, it's just mildly ahead the No. 2 album.
That honor would have to go to the One Direction supporting Australian boy band 5 Seconds Of Summer. The group's new EP, She's So Perfect starts at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 with an impressive 143,000 units sold.
5 Seconds Of Summer have largely benefitted from the so-called "One Direction Effect," meaning that anything the "Story Of My Life" group endorses experiences a massive popularity boost. 5 Seconds Of Summer were the supporting act on the majority of 1D's 2013 tour and are aiming to support them again this year.
Album sales on the Billboard 200 this week after 5sos experienced a massive drop-off. Like, by 100,000 copies. The No. 3 album honor went to rock band Chevelle. Its seventh studio album La Gárgola sold 45,000 copies, marking the band's best-ever charting position. However, the actual numbers of albums sold is not the group's best showing.
More new releases peppered the charts this week, with Christina Perri's Head Or Heart starting at No. 4 (40,000 units sold), Dan + Shay's Where It All Began at No. 6 (29,000 copies sold) and Nickel Creek's A Dotted Line at No. 7 (27,000 copes sold).
Between all the new stuff is some Billboard 200 familiarity. Shakira, whose self-titled album started at No. 2 last week fell to No. 5, selling 29,000 copies. Similarly, Johnny Cash's Out Among The Stars fell five spots to No. 8, barely leading Pharrell Williams' G I R L. And thanks to some sweet sales, Now 49 rose three spots to No. 10, with 20,000 copies.
