The eighth and final season of Showtime's bloody series Dexter garnered plenty of criticism, especially for how it came to an end. One opinion on this season we haven't heard is that of star Michael C. Hall. It turns out the actor who portrayed the serial killer anti-hero understands why people didn't enjoy the last season and even shares the same opinions as some of us. [SPOILERS to follow]

"Certainly, the shakiness of certain aspects of the eighth season maybe made that ending less palatable to people," Hall said in a new interview with IGN. "I don't think people were ready to be told that, because they were already feeling a sense of ambivalence for the show. But the idea that he imprisons himself in a prison of his own making I think is fitting [for the character]."

Maybe the most surprising quote from Hall's interview revealed he often wished Dexter died off! This is pretty surprising considering plenty of fans were hoping the character would end up dying right at the end. Unfortunately we all know that is not how it worked out.

"It's tricky. Sometimes I wish he'd offed himself, wish he'd died, wish Deb had shot him in that train compartment - of course, that would have made an eighth season difficult to do," Hall explained.

It's pretty refreshing hearing Hall's take on the arguably disappointing final season, especially since he echoed a lot of fans' opinions. Read the rest of the interview right here!
