Writer/Director Quentin Tarantino (Pulp Fiction) is jumping back into the realm of comics with his western hero. In a new miniseries by DC Comics and Dynamite Entertainment, Django Freeman, the ex-slave turned bounty hunter, is about to cross paths with the legendary sword-swinging Zorro.
In the film, a German bounty hunter named Dr. Schultz (Christoph Waltz) promises to free Django (Jamie Foxx) if he will help him find three wanted outlaws. After Schultz collects the bounty, in return he will help the former slave locate his missing wife and rescue her from a cruel plantation owner. Vertigo Comics adapted the first rough draft of Tarantino's script into a miniseries.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Django/Zorro will be plotted out by Tarantino and co-writer Matt Wagner (Sandman Mystery Theatre). Wagner will then put in the last touches to the final script.
Tarantino is absolutely eager to work on his second comic book series, "I'm very very excited about both this story and the opportunity to work with Matt [Wagner]." The two-time Academy Award winning screenwriter continues, "It was reading his Zorro stories that convinced me what a good idea it was to join these two icons together. And the story idea we came up with is thrilling, and I think will be an exciting new chapter for both characters."
In most likelihood, whenever superheroes meet in the comics, they always end up clashing. Django will end up fighting against Zorro before realizing they have a common enemy.
[Spoilers] If you watched the western/action flick, you know that Django rescued his wife and burned the Candyland plantation to the ground. Are you ticked off as I am that Dr. Schultz will not be returning in comic book form? Hopefully, Tarantino will make the character return in a flashback. [End Spoilers]
The Django/Zorro crossover event is expected to hit stores in the second half of 2014. Readers are you excited to see the comic book sequel to Django Unchained?
