While we're certainly looking forward to the August 23, 2014, premiere episode of BBC's Doctor Who with new leading man Peter Capaldi, we can look forward to another new addition to the series: the opening credits! Before the first new episode of this year, entitled "Deep Breath," we'll be treated to a new title sequence that was actually inspired by a fan-made (Whovian-made) viral video!
Head writer Steven Moffat revealed this news this week that Billy Hanshaw, a Leeds-based freelance motion-graphics designer, is responsible for the new opening credits.
"It was the only new title idea I'd seen since 1963," Moffat explained, according to AV Club. "We got in touch with him, and said, okay, we're going to do that one."
Check out Hanshaw's original video (but not the official credits) right here:

Meanwhile, "Doctor Who World Tour" is in full swing this week and Peter Capaldi revealed some great news during one of the many BBC visits: He cried when he first saw the TARDIS!
"I turned up on set and saw the TARDIS," he explained. "I remember touching it ... the police box ... and I got a little bit teary. I was just so thrilled to be there."
Adorable, Peter. Simply adorable! We all know Capaldi has been a Whovian for most of his life, so it's no wonder he got emotional when coming face to face with the TARDIS ... his TARDIS!
