New trainers, Jessie Pavelka and Jennifer Widerstrom, have been heating up the new season of The Biggest Loser, which premiered last night on NBC.
They reveal to Us Weekly why season 16 is different from all the rest. They also dish about their fitness philosophies as well as the famous contestants accompanying them on their first season.
"I like to move people around, I like to challenge them, to feel accomplishment and create measurable goals for them," explains Widerstrom. "At the end of the day it's custom to each person. I need to find uniquely what formula works with each contestant."
Us Fitness expert and TV Host, Pavelka, chimes in. "For me I try to look at fitness from a holistic viewpoint and a lot of it is what Jen said. You have the exercise, you have the movement, you have the food, the nutrition, the stuff that is going into these guys bodies. Then you have the mind power of overcoming the issue of why these guys are here."
This season is far different from the other 15 in regards to the contestants. The Biggest Loser: Glory Days are all former athletes that have lost heir abilities do to weight gain and nutritional issues. The group consists of athletes such as, Scott Mitchell and Damien Woody who are ex-NFL players, Zina Garrison an Olympic gold medal-winning tennis player and even a WNBA alum Vanessa Hayden. The show also consists of former high school athletes, such a cheerleader.
"We're looking at people who are very coachable," Widerstrom explains. "They're picking up the cues very quickly," added Pavelka.
This season takes a huge twist when contestants are eliminated, however, surprisingly head to what is proclaimed as the Comeback Canyon. They face veteran trainer, Bob Harper who secretly trains the voted-off contestants and continues their aggressive training. The last one standing at Comebck Canyon will have a chance at redemption as a surprise finalist.
