Cecily Strong has been the face of Saturday Night Live's iconic segment, "Weekend Update" since last season. Last week the show's creator and producer Lorne Michaels announced that Cecily will no longer be a part of "Weekend Update," but luckily she isn't upset about the decision.
Even though many fans are not happy about Michael Che, who was a writer for SNL last season, replacing Cecily, the comedian herself isn't too sad about it. She will still be a part of the regular cast and get to do her famous sketches.
"I don't see this as me leaving update, just as me being on update in a looser, goofier way that is a lot more fun for me and in a way I think I'm better at. And now I get to do features with the very funny and wonderful Michael Che," Cecily wrote on her Instagram on Friday with a photo of her snuggling with her dog.
She added, "No point in being angry or sad for me for something I'm genuinely happy about! Unless you are just a person who enjoys being angry or sad. Then I guess play on, playa."
The actress, who is also known for her "The Girl You Wish You Hadn't Started a Conversation with at a Party" sketch, ended her post on a lighter note by making a joke about her neck, which has a white pad on it in her photo.
"Also, I danced too hard last night so now I am wearing a hot pad on my neck. Be angry and sad for me about my dumbass neck," she wrote.
Cecily's departure from the "Weekend Update" segment is one of many changes being made this season on SNL, but Lorne thinks it will make the sketch stronger.
"It struggled to find an identity last season," Lorne told The New York Times about the legendary segment. "This is about a new era, what feels appropriate for now. That's why we did a lot of combinations and tests, and this is kind of where we came out."
Michael's addition to the segment alongside Colin Jost will mark the first time in Saturday Night Live history that there will be two men at the anchor desk.
