With the blockbuster success of X-Men: Days of Future Past, audiences had no doubt there would be another installment featuring the Marvel Comics mutant superhero team. The X-Men franchise is off to a pretty good start, now that Bryan Singer will direct the highly anticipated sequel.
As we reported here, the Usual Suspects filmmaker is back in the director's chair for the X-Men: Apocalypse movie. With this installment, scheduled for May 27, 2016, we have five reasons why X-Men: Apocalypse will be the best X-Men movie of all time.
5. X-Men: Days of Future Past
Singer returned to the X-Men franchise, which he helped start, by adapting writer Chris Claremont and artist John Bryne's popular Days of Future Past story arc. Finally, comic book fans got to see the mutant-hunting robots, the Sentinels, brought to life. The franchise has been made by a filmmaker who respects the genre and takes the source material seriously.
4. Charles and Eric
The X-Men movies have explored the love/hate relationship between Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr. Playing their younger counterparts, James MacAvoy and Michael Fassbender have such great chemistry together when they are on screen. You also cannot say no to Jennifer Lawrence, who is back as the shape-shifting Mystique.
3. Quicksilver
In X2, Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) slays the military assassins with his adamantium claws. In Days of Future Past, Quicksilver (Evan Peters) has to break into a maximum security prison and free Magneto. You know Singer is going to do wonders just to top this action sequence.
Arguably one of the best X-Men storylines, Age of Apocalypse, a world without Xavier has become a wasteland. In this alternate universe, Magneto fights for Xavier's dream for peace between mutants and humans. This would be interesting to adapt because it dives into the relationship between Eric and Charles, the common theme in the franchise.
In Days of Future Past, Magneto uses his magnetism powers against Wolverine's adamantium, which looked similar to the imagery in Fatal Attractions. In Age of Apocalypse, Magneto defeats Apocalypse by plunging his fists into his stomach and splits him in half. This has to be recreated on the big screen.
