Tonight's new Chicago Fire returns with Severide coming back to Firehouse 51 but still struggling with the death of Shay.
Back on duty from his week of leave and going AWOL until Casey reeled him back in, fans got hopeful that their old Severide was back as he saved a girl from a car on their first mission out. But that was short-lived, as scenes depicted him drinking alone in a bar as well as having the other firehouse-mates witness signs of him drinking heavily.
He even referred to the new emergency medical technician, Brett, as having an unsettling resemblance to Shay — which she does. We see Severide struggle to get his life back in order but failing to do so. He stood Detective Erin Lindsay, from Chicago PD, up on a date — something fans know he would never do.
Will Severide get back into shape or head down a dark road this season?
In lighter news, Dawson tried out for the second time to pass her physical test. With Casey by her side, he then proposed to her and they spent a romantic night together. Dawson told Casey the next morning, "... this morning, when I woke up, my first thought was, 'I can't wait to tell Shay.'"
The next day — presumably out of need — she told Brett but told her to keep it a secret.
The lives of the other members of the firehouse are slowly starting to unfold. Mills found his family members he had been searching for, but he was disappointed in what he found and told one of them that he wanted nothing to do with someone claiming to have the last name Mills. Molly's is expanding its ideas as Herrman found ways to incorporate the other firehouse members.
In sad news, Chief Boden and his wife find out they are having a high-risk pregnancy.
