Netflix has recently signed a deal with comedian Adam Sandler and his production company Happy Madison Productions. Sandler is set to produce four original movies for the streaming service.
This is big news for Sandler, as he is one to mostly make theatrical releases. The comedian's Happy Madison Productions, which produces most all of Sandler movies, has signed a deal with Netflix to develop exclusive movies for Netflix and its 50 country operation.
Sandler will both produce and star in the straight to Netflix movies. No theatrical theater production will be set.
The Grown Ups star released a statement about the deal and it was in true funny man form. "When these fine people came to me with an offer to make four movies for them, I immediately said yes for one reason and one reason only...Netflix rhymes with Wet Chicks," Sandler said in a statement. "Let the streaming begin!!!!"
The comedians movies cost on average $80 million and have an incredible following. Therefore, this partnership seems in good hands.
Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos said in a statement, "People love Adam's films on Netflix and often watch them again and again. His appeal spans across viewers of all ages -- everybody has a favorite movie, everyone has a favorite line – not just in the US but all over the world,"
The news comes days after Netflix annouced it will stream the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon sequel The Green Legend.
It has only been a mater of time before streaming companies like Netflix would start making feature films. There is somewhat of a dispute between theater films and home entertainment as streaming videos is steadily taking over the market.
Happy Madison Productions has countless hit movies under it's belt such as Mr. Deeds, The Hot Chick, Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigilo, Grandma's Boy, Grown Ups and countless others.
