Jennifer Lopez Lands Oscar Director For Her New Pilot 'Shades Of Blue'

Oscar winner Barry Levinson is one lucky man! NBC has locked in Levinson to direct and exec produce the new Jennifer Lopez drama, Shades of Blue, Deadline confirms.

"It's an exciting project to be working on with Jennifer," said Levinson. He is the exec producer of Borgia, Copper and most recently The Humbling starring Al Pacino.

"[Pilot writer] Adi has written a police drama that gets into the fascinating dirt behind law enforcement with a female character we haven't really seen before."

Adi Hasak has previously written From Paris With Love. Lopez will also be producing alongside Ryan Seacrest though his Ryan Seacrest Productions and her Nuyorican Productions.

Lopez will star as Harlee McCord, a single mother who joins the anti-corruption task force for the FBI. The series got a straight-to-series order on NBC.

The close-knit task force breeches ethical lines, leading McCord to become compromised by personal and ethical decisions as her colleagues help raise her daughter, however she does not want to be part of the corruption.

Levinson took home the Academy Award for directing Rain Man as well as Academy Award nominations for Bugsy, Avalon and Diner.

Lopez just completed production of The Boy Next Door, playing Claire Peterson. She also finished the movie Home as the voice of Lucy. Currently in post-production is her role as Eve Rafael in Lila & Eve.

With an Oscar winner such as Levinson it's appropriate to consider the TV series being something worthwhile. Some other crime dramas they'll be competing against are Gotham, Criminal Minds, Chicago P.D. along with many more.
