Angela Bassett has been on the go promoting her new film "Whitney," which is scheduled to premiere on Lifetime Saturday, Jan. 17, at 8 p.m. One stop the new director made was to "The Wendy Williams Show," where she opened up about directing for the first time, Bobbi Kristina drama and her thoughts on making the movie. When Wendy asked the actress, "I understand this is your first time directing?" Bassett replied, "My first time." Wendy, "How did this all come about for you?" Bassett: "I was having lunch one day with the executive producer who produced [the] 'Betty and Coretta' movie that I did for Lifetime with Mary J. Blige a couple years back. He says he's working on this Whitney movie ... knowing his integrity, the way he goes about things, I was excited about it, because two years I wasn't excited about the idea." It’s being reported that famed director Mike Nichols, the man who made films such as The Graduate (1967), The Birdcage (1996), and Closer (2004), has died at the age of 83. As the husband to former ABC World News Tonight anchor Diane Sawyer, Nichols was often noted for not only his films but also his material on Broadway. In her directorial debut, LisaRaye McCoy tackles the issue of discrimination and prejudice due to skin color within the black community head on in the film "Skinned." The controversial film journeys through the life of a woman named Jolie who has battled with issues of being dark-skinned since childhood. To combat her self-esteem issues she turns to skin bleaching, as she believes that being of a lighter skin complexion equates to beauty, but later in life her hasty decisions become her biggest regret.
