Chuck Todd may currently be the host of NBC's Meet the Press, but according to New York Magazine it looks like the famed political talk show really wanted another expert: Daily Show host Jon Stewart.
Yes, it's been said that NBC president Deborah Turness had various "negotiations" with the Daily Show lead about coming over to network television. In fact, sources claim that NBC was prepared to offer "anything" to bring the comedian onboard, specifically saying, "They were ready to back the Brink's truck up!"
As NY Mag fairly notes, an attempt to bring Stewart over to Meet the Press would make total sense considering the comic has something they desperately desire: a young audience.
And yes, Jon Stewart is not a journalist – something the right wing often leans on – we get it, but to say that the host has no credit when it comes to politics is incredibly mistaken. Since taking the Daily Show seat back in 1999, Stewart has completely morphed the show with his crew of oh, so intelligent backers (writers and producers) into a firm, and credible, go-to for younger viewers. He's also been able to transform himself into a knowledgable platform for those looking to watch the news.
Despite his ability to crack a joke, he has famously shown time and time again his capabilities when it comes to conducting no nonsense interviews and producing fact-hitting stories, citing the likes of Jim Cramer, Bill O'Reilly and President Barack Obama as a number of people he's been known to grill in the past.
