Currently we know the name Dr. Luke as being associated with the Kesha scandal, as the singer has decided to sue her longtime music producer by claiming he sexually, physically, verbally and emotionally abused her. But who's this producer now making headlines?
The 41-year-old American record producer and songwriter was born as Lukasz Sebastian Gottwald in Providence, Rhode Island. From a young age he knew he was musically inclined. When his parents refused to let him play the drums, he picked up his older sister's guitar and taught himself how to play, thus igniting his career.
Dr. Luke got his start when he auditioned for the Saturday Night Live Band, which he eventually joined as the show's guitarist from 1997-2007.
He went mainstream with his two publishing companies, Kasz Money Publishing and Prescriptions Songs. Prescriptions Songs networks around 50 songwriters, including Kesha, Katy Perry and Benny Blanco.
He has helped produced hit songs such as Miley Cyrus's "Party in the USA" Avril Lavigne's "Girlfriend" and Perry's "I Kissed a Girl," to name a few.
The producer has received two nominations at the 53rd Grammy Awards in the category Album of the Year for Perry's Teenage Dream.
All in all, current controversy or not, the guy's a hit maker!
In January, shortly after Kesha was admitted to rehab for an eating disorder, Kesha's mother Pebe Sebert made allegations that Dr. Luke pressured the singer into loosing weight, even claiming he said she looked "like a refrigerator."
Dr. Luke denied the claims.
In recent news, Kesha has called her 10-year professional relationship with Dr. Luke as becoming that of sexual harassment, gender violence, emotional abuse and violation of California business practices.
