USA Network's new comedy Benched premieres tonight, and it's going to be funny. The show's executive producer is teasing the new series, which stars Eliza Coupe from Happy Endings.

The lead character in the legal sitcom is a lawyer named Nina Whitley, but she isn't the woman you'd necessarily want to help you in a bind.

"She's not a crusader. She's not someone who's out to help the disenfranchised," executive producer and Benched co-creator Michaela Watkins told TV Line.

According to USA, Nina's a corporate lawyer who has done everything she needed to in order to climb to the top of her field. Unfortunately, when she's passed over for a promotion and her fiance leaves her for another woman, she has a total meltdown and gets fired.

"She's like a lot of people I know, including myself. If she would just take a beat, be a little more filtered and gauge the room first, she would actually do very well. And that's what I love about the character. She's so consumed with passion and enthusiasm and that's really what drives her," Michaela told the publication.

Benched airs tonight at 10:30 p.m. and it's full of a hilarious ensemble cast. Jay Harrington plays Phil, Nina's coworker; Carter McIntyre plays Trent, Nina's ex-fiance; Oscar Nunez plays CarlosJolene Purdy plays Micah; and Maria Bamford plays Sheryl.

"This may all seem assembled from a paint-by-numbers kit, but it clicks nicely thanks to a lively group of supporting players who include Fred Melamed as a judge and Jolene Purdy as an intern. It's not deep or challenging comedy, at least not yet, but it's diverting," The New York Times reported about the new series.

San Francisco Gate described the breakout series by saying: "The show's humor is grounded in Nina's fish-out-of-water career adjustment to a far less glamorous job and world, which may sound rather obvious, but works because of terrific writing by co-creators Michaela Watkins and Damon Jones. Nina's meltdown is a comedic symphony, and the three episodes sent to critics ripple with sharp one-liners."
