Looks like it's time for fans of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart to rejoice! One of the show's famed correspondents, Jason Jones, has just landed the starring role in a somewhat autobiographical pilot for TBS, according to The Hollywood Reporter. And who is to pen the script? Another Daily Show correspondent... Jones' longtime wife, Samantha Bee!
With Bee set to write the pilot, and Jones to star, it seems safe to say that the upcoming comedy pilot from the married couple is going to be epic... especially if it's anything like their witty work on The Daily Show.
As THR reports, the pilot will be inspired by moments taken from the couple's many experiences on family trips. It will chronicle a road trip to Key West, with Jones starring as the father, Nate. Along for the ride will be his two kids and wife. The basic nature of the pilot is to show how being in such a close proximity can often drive people somewhat insane – even families – but after meeting strangers and having several experiences outside of the car, they're ultimately brought back together to learn the value of what they have.
If the pilot were to go to series, each season will be a different road trip.
On the project, Senior VP of Scripted Development at TBS and TNT, Brett Weitz, said, "As we continue to move TBS in new and exciting directions, we believe that comedies like this will truly resonate with our target audience of young adults."
He continued, "We're thrilled to be working with Jason and Samantha Bee, two of The Daily Show's breakout stars and two of the funnies writers in the business."
