"All men must die!" Well, maybe not everyone. Game of Thrones's biggest stars have officially signed new contracts that should take them through a seventh season of the hit HBO series.
The Hollywood Reporter exclusively learned that the bulk of the Game of Thrones actors have renegotiated their contracts to include an option for a seventh season. The cast originally had contracts that took them through six seasons, but this revised agreement adds another potential season to the gruesome and intriguing series.
"In exchange for the option, HBO has ponied up huge raises for Seasons 5, 6 and potential Season 7 that will make the cast members among the highest paid on cable TV," The Hollywood Reporter revealed.
When Thrones was renewed for two more seasons in April, HBO programming president Michael Lombardo said, "Game of Thrones is a phenomenon like no other."
"David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, along with their talented collaborators, continue to surpass themselves, and we look forward to more of their dazzling storytelling," he told THR.
The actors included in the new potential seventh season deal are Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister), Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister), Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen), Kit Harington (Jon Snow), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister), Natalie Dormer (Margaery Tyrell), Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) and Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark).
Although the seventh season isn't set in stone, the series's creators have always had a seventh-season goal in mind.
"I would say it's the goal we've had from the beginning," showrunner David Benioff told Entertainment Weekly in March. "It was our unstated goal, because to start on a show and say your goal is seven seasons is the height of lunacy. Once we got to the point where we felt like we're going to be able to tell this tale to its conclusion, that became [an even clearer] goal. Seven gods, seven kingdoms, seven seasons. It feels right to us."
