Another superhero TV series is coming to your television set soon, but this time it's not all about the men. CBS has committed to Supergirl as a new comic-book-inspired series. The first casting news for the super show has been announced — see who the network is looking for to join the new superhero series.
The Eye Network landed the superhero project from Greg Berlanti, who created Arrow and The Flash, and Ali Adler, who worked on Chuck, E! Online confirmed in September. Supergirl will follow Superman's cousin Kara Zor-El, who is 24 as she starts to embrace her powers and become the super girl she was meant to be.
Supergirl's lead character, Kara Danvers, or Kara Zor-El, has yet to be cast, but according to TV Line, the network is looking for someone 22 to 26 to play the superhero.
"After repressing said skills for more than a decade, Kara is forced to bust out her super moves in public during an unexpected disaster. Energized by her heroism for the first time in her life, she begins embracing her abilities in the name of helping the people of her city, earning herself a super moniker along the way," TV Line exclusively explained.
The publication previously reported that the network's also looking for an actress to play Alexandra "Alex" Danvers, Kara's foster sister who's gorgeous and smart.
The network has announced four more of the series's regular roles that it's also casting, according to the publication. The roles of Cat Grant, James Olsen, Winslow "Wynn" Schott and Hank Henshaw are all being cast now.
CBS is looking for someone in their 40s to play Cat Grant, the founder of CatCo, who will be Kara's boss in the series. TV Line exclusively reported that Cat is described as "J.Lo by way of Anna Wintour." For James Olsen, the attractive photographer for CatCo, they are looking for a man in his late 20s or early 30s.
Winslow Schott is a tech wiz who carries a torch for Kara, his neighbor. The publication reported that Hank Henshaw is a CIA agent who's worried about Supergirl's powers and how they will affect humankind.
CBS is the latest network to jump on the superhero bandwagon. Fox currently has Gotham, about Gotham City before Bruce Wayne became Batman, and The CW has Arrow, in its third season, and newcomer The Flash. ABC is also in on the action with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
