The Mindy Project returned Tuesday, Nov. 4, with a new episode, and it was funny as usual. "Caramel Princess Time" is all about being on time — or, rather, the fact that Mindy Lahiri is never on time.
The episode begins with Danny waiting at a movie theater for Mindy as she lies about her location. By the time Mindy shows up The Godfather 2, is sold out and Danny is not happy. The next morning, Mindy is late to work and it pushes Danny over the edge.
Meanwhile at work, Dr. Fishman tells Danny he should go to therapy because of his outburst — the one time she saw him pretending to kill himself because of his Mindy problems. He turns her down saying, he doesn't have any issues he needs to work out.
In the romance department this week, Tamra and Morgan set up Peter on a blind date with Tamra's friend Abby (Fargo's Allison Tolman), whom she describes as her twin. Peter's really excited, but when he shows up at the restaurant and sees a white and not-so-thin woman, he's disappointed.
Their blind date is horrible. After learning that she's a romance novel writer, he pretends to get a text about a surgery he has to go to. He actually uses the plot from Look Who's Talking as an escape and she calls him out on it before he leaves. The next day, Morgan and Tamra are pissed at Peter for being such a jerk. They tell him he has to go to the bookstore that afternoon and apologize for his terrible behavior.
Back to Danny and Mindy. Mindy shows up to a date Danny had planned at a comedy club and he isn't there. As she texts him to make fun of him for being late for once, he reveals he was already there and left when she was late ... yikes. The comedian then makes fun of Mindy for fighting with her boyfriend on her phone during his set and he boos her out of the club. It's embarrassing and causes Mindy to not talk to Danny the next day.
At the office, they fight in front of everyone and Tamra comes up with a valid point — in Mindy's eyes, anyway. She tells her she has CPT, which is Caramel Princess Time, which means because she is so pretty men have to wait for her. Danny's not buying it and he doesn't understand why she can never be on time.
Later that night. Mindy changes Danny's watch so he will know what it feels like to be late and realize it isn't that big of a deal. The next morning he's surprised when he sees Mindy dressed when he's getting back from his run. She smiles as she tells him she's going to work and he's going to be late.
Danny will not stand for being late, so instead of changing he runs all the way to work. He makes it just in the knick of time and boasts about being on time. He starts to pretend shoot everyone in the office and Dr. Fishman sees everything. She then orders him to go to the seminar to help him work out his issues.
Back to Peter. He shows up at the bookstore and there's a huge line to see Abby at her book signing. While he's in line he starts to read one of her books and he realizes she's a really good writer. Once he gets to the front of the line, she turns him down for being such a jerk.
Meanwhile, Danny agrees to go to the seminar because he wants to be able to work again soon. Mindy feels bad for what she did so she says she'll take Danny's mom Annette and her friend Dot to run all their errands. While Danny's having a tough time opening up in therapy, Mindy's dealing with his mom being super slow.
After a long day, Mindy freaks out at Annette and Dot for being so inconsiderate. They took their sweet time getting ready and they were late to every appointment they had. After convincing her friend to still take Annette for her mammogram, Annette decides she doesn't want to do it. Mindy loses it and makes them both cry.
Back at counseling, Danny is clearly unhappy, but Morgan is there — just for fun — and he is hilarious. They have an open dialogue, but since Danny's so resistant he has to come in front of the class and talk to the doctor one on one. He ends up revealing that he hates when people are late because he has a fear that they'll never show up. When he was younger his father was supposed to meet him at the movies, and he never came. Danny doesn't understand why if you love someone you would keep him or her waiting. It's actually really sad.
In a switch to Peter, he comes back again to see Abby and reads her a story he wrote for her. The story is terrible — it includes a pirate and a dolphin — but Abby agrees to go on another date with him. Yay, Peter!
In the final moments, we see Danny arrive at his mom's house after she called him upset about what happened with Mindy. Mindy's sitting on the doorstep after being locked out for her actions. They sit together and make up. Danny says he's sorry for overreacting and Mindy apologizes for thinking he was insane. Mindy then calls his mom a spaghetti head and it's awesome.
