Sad news for Macaulay Culkin fans today. According to multiple sources, the 34-year-old actor was found dead in his New York City apartment. The star, best known for his role as Kevin McCallister in Home Alone (1990) and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992), was allegedly found by police Friday afternoon when they were asked by a family member of Macaulay's to do a wellness check on him.
According to MSNBC, the police were performing a routine check on the actor when they discovered his body. The site is also claiming that while the apartment belonged to Culkin, police were unable to confirm that the dead man was in fact Macaulay.
Sounds like a hoax, right?
While the star has had his fair share of personal drama in the past, including drug use, the police said that when checking the apartment it appeared to be clean.
"The apartment was exceptionally clean and we found no signs of abuse or foul play, so we are depending on the coroner to make a final ruling of what happened here today," Detective James Patterson, of the New York Police Department, said in a statement.
While the news site is reporting that the star has died, Hollywood Life's claiming that the whole thing is just another death hoax. And this isn't the first time the actor was reportedly found dead. Earlier this year in April, a death hoax began making its way around the Internet claiming the star had died, but it turned out to be false.
Fans of his Christmas movies can breathe easy, as it looks like the star was only the victim of a death hoax. So you can watch Home Alone and Home Alone 2 this holiday season without getting emotional about Culkin's (fake) death.
