Sergey Kovalev Dethrones Bernard Hopkins Of His World Titles

Bernard Hopkins may feel he lacks the respect he deserves, but his title fight has helped to restore that lost respect. The 49-year-old boxer is in great shape, and despite losing his titles to Sergey Kovalev, he showed his fitness, ability and more. The legendary boxer took away respect and pride, despite losing his belts, but will he retire? He suggested it is a 50-50 decision, but many involved in the sport believe it's time for him to put his gloves down for good, but will pride intervene once again?

The Russian challenger has earned a huge reputation, according to ESPN, but experts of the sport were unsure over who would prevail. But from the opening bell, it was evident this was a bout too far. Sergey, however, showed huge respect for the legend throughout, refusing to jump from his game plan, when he could've possibly ended the fight a lot sooner.

Kovalev was humble, saying, according to The Guardian, "He was a really tough opponent. He is very good at keeping distance. I really respect him for the fight, but he needs to stop his career, because he's already done a lot in the boxing world and he needs to give an opportunity to younger fighters to be champions. I'm next."

Hopkins had impressive moments, but by the end of the fight it was clear just how tall of an order this fight was for the "Alien," as he likes to call himself. He took several fight-ending shots, and with seconds left to go the referee avoided the stoppage, perhaps out of respect, allowing the veteran the opportunity to finish the fight with more respect to his name.
